Why is vision training important?

Vision training is imperative for any athlete wanting to maximize their potential. Most, if not all sports require vision and visual processing. Athletes may have deficits they are unaware of and these deficits can impact performance in sports. An athlete makes decisions from what is seen; poor visual skills may equate to errors in anticipation, timing and decision-making. Having a quality sports vision training program like VisionX can improve deficits in visual skills and improve overall performance.

Is this training sport specific?

Online vision training (sometimes referred to as eye training therapy) with VisionX Sports will benefit any athlete in any sport, and at every level.

Should I wear my glasses or contacts during training?

Athletes should always wear their doctor-prescribed vision correction (glasses or contact lenses) whether doing vision training or not.

Should I get an eye exam before I start my vision training program?

It is not a requirement before you start sports vision training, but it may be helpful to have your prescription checked before you start. A comprehensive eye exam will determine if glasses or contact lenses will be helpful.

Will vision training eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses?

Vision training will not eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses i.e., nearsighted, farsighted, or presbyopic correction. Sports vision training, vision training, or eye training therapy in general will not improve correction, but it can improve functionality with our visual skills.

Where can I do my vision training?

You can do your sports vision training from just about any place with Wi-Fi or cell service. The VXS online vision training platform makes it easy to access drill work on your athlete calendar. Web-Based Drills are performed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone and can be done with no additional space. Physical Performance Drills require a little more space and some drills require a partner/teammate. Drill work can be done with minimal space (home, training facility, hotel, etc.).

How is the VisionX sports vision training program scheduled?

Individual athletes participate in 12-week training cycles. Organizations and teams implement 8-12 week training cycles. Training is scheduled for 3x/week, but also on your own time. We suggest one day off between training sessions, but if you have a busy week and need to train multiple days in a row, that is still OK. The VXS vision training platform allows more flexibility so the program can fit into any athlete’s busy schedule.

Does it matter if I use a computer, tablet, or smartphone for training?

VisionX’s Athlete Package (Phyical Performance) Drills can be done with a smartphone. But web-based online vision training Tech Package Drills should be done on a computer or tablet. This allows for the largest field of view for the athlete. You can use a smartphone for Tech Drills, but this comes with limitations Again, Physical Performance Drills work well on a phone by viewing demo videos and instructions, but tech-based drills are not recommended on a phone.

How long are vision training sessions?

Vision training sessions are programmed to be 5-20 minutes in length. VXS sports vision training is a highly concentrated style of training utilizing sports vision optometry exercises and drills to be performed over shorter periods of time.

Can I do my vision training more than 3 times per week?

The short answer is yes. But we suggest breaks between visual training sessions or training days because of the high-intensity nature of sports vision therapy and training drills. Just like any other training program, rest and recovery is key for long-term success and growth. If you plan to train more than 3 times per week, try to keep vision training sessions short and work on visual skills that are the most difficult for you.

How many visual exercises and vision drills can I expect to do each day?

Visual training days can consist of only Tech Drills or be combined with Physical Performance Drills. Athletes will generally perform 3-5 drills each training day. Some training days differ, but will last between 5-20 minutes per session regardless of whether they are online vision training drills or physical and sports vision training drills.

How do I know if I am improving?

The VisionX platform provides progress reports, data-driven analytics, and graphs for online vision training drills to help provide instant feedback for athletes. Athletes will also test multiple times in a training cycle to gauge improvement and growth in the following visual skills; Phoria, Divergence, Convergence, Depth Perception, and Visual Processing. In the field of sports vision optometry, tracking progress is key.

Some of the Physical Drills are very difficult for me. How can I improve these skills?

Always start Physical Vision Training Drills with a slow and consistent pace. We learn from repetition. As athletes, if we speed up the process before we can handle the mechanics of any form of sports vision optometry, it will be tough to learn the visual skill and perform it consistently. For example, with juggling drills, try to toss the balls a little higher to give more time to process the skill and continue the pattern as you go.

Can the 3D Glasses give me a headache?

The 3D glasses should not cause a headache. If headaches are consistent and prolonged during or after these vision training drills, this may be an indication of eye teaming delays. These glasses will not cause damage to your visual system; but if you have concerns, it may be beneficial to follow up with an eye care professional, especially one with experience in sports vision optometry who is proficient in testing such skills. What is a dominant eye?

Often your brain will tend to prefer the visual information of one eye slightly more than the other. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the vision is better in the dominant eye, just that the information is preferred. Sports vision training helps team both eyes regardless of dominant eye.

How do I know my dominant eye?

Sometimes this will coincide with a dominant hand, but if it doesn’t, it is important to know. With both eyes open, make a small triangle in front of your face and pick an object to view. Close an eye and if the object disappears, that is your dominant eye. Sports vision training helps team both eyes regardless of which eye is dominant.

Does vision training physically strengthen my eyes?

Vision training emphasizes visual coordination, not strength. Eye muscles are strong, they do not need strengthening; the muscles do not atrophy once training is ceased. Being able to coordinate each eye so they work together as a team with your brain, is what vision training encompasses. In general, strength doesn’t necessarily correlate with performance, although we are talking about sports vision training are used to strength being a large aspect in sports. Sports vision therapy benefits athletes without “strengthening” sight.

How do I access the videos on my account?

Login to your account and pull up your daily vision drills. Access to videos and vision drills is in the athlete calendar. Looking for a video from past training days? You can access vision drills from any previous training session once you have officially started your vision training.

How do I change my credit card and billing information?

Login to your account and select the “Billing” tab on the left. You can change and update all credit card options in this section of your account.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can always cancel a subscription in the billing section of your account. We hope you do not need to use this feature, but if necessary, you can cancel at any point by going to your settings and updating your billing and subscription information.

Is there an age limit for vision training?

There is no age limit for sports vision training, vision training, or even visual therapy in general. Anyone that participates in sports and vision (which obviously go hand-in-hand) can benefit from vision drills. Generally speaking, anyone age 6+ will be able to utilize most vision drills.

Why are there weeks without vision training on my athlete calendar?

This eye training therapy program has built-in “off weeks” to reset and recover before starting another cycle of sports vision training. Any quality training program of any sort should intentionally account for rest and recovery.

Why is the 3D drill work not working properly?

Make sure you are wearing the correct 3-D glasses for all vision drills. When you first log in to the VisionX Sports system, you will be asked to calibrate your device with your particular 3-D glasses. If you’ve changed glasses since you first calibrated, you can recalibrate at any time to get the most out of this sports vision optometry tool.
